Abstract
Ion vapour deposition of aluminium has become a recognized process for depositing highly adherent coatings on different materials to impart corrosion resistance. This technology, which was invented in the 1960s, is now used commercially on a production scale to aluminize aircraft and other components to enhance corrosion protection, replacing cadmium electroplating. The continuous need to adapt to different applications has led to the growth of new and more reliable equipment designs. Coating operations have been shown to be clean, simple, and non-labour intensive.
