Abstract
In 2005, for the first time, the European powder metallurgy tribes will look to new opportunities in the centre of Europe, in the Praga caput regni, capital of the Czech Republic, which joined the European Union in 2004. Although the Czech Republic has a long history of involvement with PM, current activity has been somewhat restricted. This to some extent reflects the low investment in research and innovation (0·58% of GDP, compared with 2% over the EU as a whole and 2·9% in the USA). However, it is planned to double this investment by 2010. Current PM activity and its development in the Czech Republic are reviewed.
