Abstract
Development and growth of the Indian PM industry has, as in many other countries, been dependent on the automotive sector. There has been reasonably rapid growth in the Indian automobile sector during the past 10 years or so, and the industry is poised for a leap forward. The future of PM in India looks bright, not only because of internal growth in the automobile market, but also the desire of international manufacturers to source increasing volumes of automobile components from India. The present status of PM in Indian industry, R&D laboratories and academic institutions is reviewed. The challenge before the Indian PM industry is to make inroads into the production of high end and high value products.
