Abstract
The 1996 SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) International Congress and Exhibition, held in Detroit, MI on 26–29 February, attracted 47000 delegates for the centenary year of the American automobile. Although the attendance was not the largest ever, the size of the exhibition (304 000 ft2) and the number of technical papers (1150) set new records. Dr JOSEPH M. CAPUS suggests that the PM related presentations produced much to encourage the industry and, assisted by Dr STAN MOCARSKI (recently retired from Ford Motor Co.), picks out some highlights from the sessions dealing with PM gear developments and general PM automotive applications.
