Abstract
The advantages of flame spraying as a means of fabricating dense bodies, especially ceramics, are outlined. The development of spraying processes is described and the characteristics of material sprayed by conventional methods are discussed. The experimental techniques developed for the production of dense α-alumina parts by flame spraying are considered and the results given of physical measurements on sprayed material. Finally, the limitations and possibilities of the process are assessed in the light of the available data.
