In this review the term ‘superpurity’ is used to denote metals in about the purest forms in which they have so far been described in the literature. Generally speaking, most superpurity metals produced contain three or four impurity elements in amounts of 1–5 ppm and some other impurities are usually detected in amounts of 0.1 ppm or less.
