Abstract
The aim of this review is to discuss the information which can be derived from a study of the lattice spacings in alloys. Such information is restricted in two ways: by experimental difficulties involved in various measuring and computing techniques which may limit accuracy, and by the fact that lattice spacings do not define the actual positions or the actual sizes of the atoms in an alloy.
