Abstract
An analytical solution based on the upper-bound technique is derivedfor coldplug drawmg of duplex tubes. A kinematically admissible axisymmetric velocity field is proposed which takes into account the strength and volume ratio of the component materials, redundant work, friction, and strain hardening. This analysis is considered to be the first solution of the process capable of predicting the final thicknesses of the component materials in the drawn tube. It is used to establish the boundaries of a theoretical safe-drawing regime. Experimental results for the drawing of Al/Al, Al/Cu, and Cu/Al duplex tubes show reasonable agreement with theoretical results. A procedure for practical pass design is outlined.
