Abstract
The influence of AlN in solid solution in austenite and as precipitates on the torsional deformability of low-carbon steel in the temperature range 950°–1150°C was investigated. The deformability is highest and the flow stress lowest in austenite with AlN in solid solution at the start of deformation. The smaller the average size of the AlN precipitates, the greater are the reduction in deformability and increase in flow stress of the steel produced by them. The activation energy for the torsional deformation of steel is not dependent on the presence of AlN in solid solution or in precipitates.
