Abstract
The thermodynamic properties of the Ti–W system have been assessed on the basis of the descriptions of pure Ti and W included in the Scientific Group Thermodata Europe database. The assessment method involves the use of models for the Gibbs energy of the various phases of the system, and interaction parameters in the models are evaluated from experimental information. A consistent description of the Ti–W system was obtained and used to calculate its phase diagrams. Comparisons between calculation and experimental results, which give satisfactory agreement not only for the liquid–solid equilibrium, but also for the solid–solid equilibrium, are presented. In particular, the present calculation shows a significant improvement on the descriptions of liquidus and solidus temperatures compared with previous evaluations of the Ti–W system.
