Abstract
The results of a structural and phase analysis of a cobalt based coating prepared by laser cladding on a low carbon steel substrate are presented. As prepared and heat treated specimens were investigated by means of optical, scanning electron, and transmission electron microscopy in conjuction with energy and wavelength dispersive X-ray microanalyses, Mössbauer spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The results of the phase analysis are compared with measurements of microhardness. After heat treating, the equilibrium structure and phase composition were formed. Simultaneously, an increase of coating microhardness was observed.
