Abstract
A high velocity water jetting process has been developed to remove paint from aircraft fuselage structures. It is shown that using the optimum water jetting conditions paint removal can be achieved without damaging the aluminium substrate. However, extended exposure to high pressure water jets may result in the onset of plastic damage. A model is presented which predicts the safe range of operating conditions and which can be used to highlight the sensitivity of the jetting process to the operating variables.
