A general overview of the economic and technical reasons for considering direct sheet casting processes is presented. Single roller, double roller, and spray casting methods are described in terms of the main experimental variables necessary to achieve specified sheet thicknesses and tolerances. In addition, the typical structural features that are observed and how these relate to the measured tensile properties of ‘as cast’ and rolled sheet are briefly reviewed.
