Abstract
The following six papers were presented at a one-day meeting sponsored jointly by The Institute of Metals and The Institute of Ceramics and held at The Royal Society, London, on 19 November 1985 to discuss the various aspects involved in the application of ceramics in gas turbines and reciprocating engines.
The meeting provided a technical and scientific framework including a national overview and the requirements for research and development. The prediction of engineering performance and the challenges presented in the fabrication of these materials were also discussed.
The papers will be of interest not only to ceramicists, metallurgists, and engineers working in the field, but also to materials scientists and engineers requiring an introduction to a subject which is receiving much attention in both the UK and other countries.
