A number of alternative coating processes which can be used to deposit protective coatings on superalloy gas turbine aerofoil components are described. These can be divided into three groups: chemical vapour deposition, non–chemical vapour deposition, and hybrid processes. Their advantages and limitations are discussed relative to current production processes.
