The variation in the flow stress after 0.01 strain (σI) has been used as a measure of the hardening of silver by the addition of several different solute metals. The hardening may be separated into temperature-dependent and temperature-independent components, the former being primarily related to the valency of the solute and the latter to the overall electron: atom ratio.
