Abstract
A simple calculation method has been devised for the determination of ventilation requirements in deadends for both mine roadways and civil tunnelling applications. The basic assumption, that the leakage flow rate over a piece of ductwork is constantly proportional to the circulating flow rate, allows the method to reach an explicit solution such that any problem can be solved by a straightforward procedure that avoids iterative or numerical approaches. Moreover, the parameters required for the calculation can be estimated easily from air mass-flow measurements made in the tunnel or roadway. The calculation method has been correlated against actual measurements obtained from underground operations and has also been written in the form of a computer program.
