Abstract
A general appreciation is given of the work of the Coal Authority in relation to mine-water pollution. The development of the present working relationship between the Authority and the Environment Agency is recounted; monitoring, remediation and preventive programmes are described; and a case study of work at Whittle colliery, Northumberland, is presented.
