Abstract
In this, the second Daphne Jackson Memorial Lecture of the Women's Engineering Society, given at The Institution of Electrical Engineers in London, the changing relationship between creativity and engineering in the broadcasting industry is explored. The traditional clear demarcation between the Programming and Technology departments, and the effect this has had on the programme making process and the career choices of women at the BBC, are discussed. New digitally based technology that is being introduced into both radio and television is bringing creativity and engineering closer together, which, it is suggested, will be to the advantage of women working in broadcasting.
