Abstract
Cancer is mainly caused by environmental factors, either man-made or of natural origin. These include radiation, viruses and chemicals. Skin cancer (except malignant melanoma) induced by the UV light of the Sun is by far the most frequent neoplastic disease, but fortunately it is also the one which is most easily cured. The role of viruses in human cancer etiology is, on the other hand, still difficult to estimate. Thus, one is left with the impression that the major threat stems from chemical carcinogens.
