Abstract
Science has so far been treated as a marginal activity by the Third World, in spite of the fact that technology for development depends on it. The role of the International Centre for Physics in Trieste is reviewed and its success in bringing advanced science to its students from the Third World promises well for the future. But the scientific communities from the developed countries and the United Nations Agencies must help in the setting up of additional International Centres of Science to bring about a real transfer of science to help the Third World.
