Food fashions have swung back and forth dictated by chance, by religious taboos, by custom and by law. Examples here considered cover the eating of horse meat, of offal and of blood human milk, dark green vegetables and sugar. Overeating, human diets, protein requirements, child nutrition and the prevention of scurvy are also discussed. But who makes food policy is difficult to answer, a new crops and technical developments will continue to influence food fashions.
