Abstract
The Carrying Capacity Concept arises from the increasing population of the planet and the limited resources available. It is defined as the number of persons in a given area who can at present sustain their physical standard of living utilising their resources, land, skills and organisation. It is fully discussed in relation to constraints, the environment, international migrations, such as the brain drain, and the planning process. The fullest application of the concept requires a methodology, a UN Inter-Agency research program and interdisciplinary policies.
