Abstract
Interferon, originally discovered in England in 1957, has only recently become available in quantities which allowed the first clinical and scientific evaluations. Work in the author's laboratories is described, dealing with the sources of Interferon, its assay and production, its molecular properties, purification, chemical structure and the results of producing interferon from genetic engineering in other research institutes. The chemical synthesis of the interferon molecule is actively pursued as it shows such broad antiviral activity.
