Abstract
Held in Nice, France, from 20 to 22 June 2005 at the Acropolis Centre, the 5th ECCC was attended by over 500 people from 35 countries and five continents. Eighty-five papers and 28 posters were presented and the exhibition featured 17 stands. This initial report of the meeting covers the opening session and developments in operational practice, together with the technological advances that are facilitating this. The second report, to appear in a future issue, will focus on nozzle and fluid flow aspects, specific product types and modelling activities.
