Abstract
Following recent developments, quantitative image analysis of fracture surfaces has become an important feature in the process of obtaining a better knowledge of the micro-structural processes involved during the deformation and rupture of materials. The present paper illustrates and discusses (i) how a fracture surface can be reconstituted from stereographic views and profilometric methods of fracture analysis, and (ii) how to characterize morphologically a fracture surface and the relevant stereometric relationships that can be used. Finally, some examples from the literature of the use of these different methods are presented.
