Abstract
The experimental literature on the phase equilibria of the Al-Fe-Ni system has been reviewed. Recommended projections of the solid-liquid equilibria are based upon a compromise between experimental data for the isothermal contours and established points for binary and ternary invariant reactions. The nature of the equilibria in the solid state in the Fe corner is discussed with reference to the fcc and bcc solid solutions. Attention is drawn to the development at temperatures from 1250°C downwards of a miscibility gap between β (disordered bcc) and β2 (ordered bcc) and to its influence upon magnetic properties. Two ternary phases, T1 and T2 ,have been established. A series of isotherms are recommended for the solid-state phase equilibria. Crystallographic and thermodynamic data are summarized briefly.
