Abstract
This review is an attempt to draw together available information on the subject of moulds for the continuous casting of steel. Particular attention has been given to the role of the gap in the heat-extraction process and. the influence of mould design, operating variables, steel chemistry, and lubrication type on the mould heat flux. Other important aspects of moulds, including distortion and wear, and the influence of mould conditions on casting defects and breakouts, are also presented.
