Abstract
The development, introduction, and gradual acceptance by the extractive metallurgy industry of modern hydrometallurgical techniques have very greatly increased the number of routes available for the recovery of base metals from their ores. Indeed, the chelating extractants which will selectively remove metals from leach liquors or mine waters at the natural pH have in many cases effectively turned mine waste rock into usable ore.
