Abstract
This review is the first of a series on the natianal contribution to knowledge on the physical metallurgy of nuclear fuel elements in various ccuntries. Here published Swedish work on the microstructure, and related praperties af fuel-element materials is examined agiainst the Internatianal backgraund with regard :to its relevance to the develapment of nuclea power in this oauntry. The materials dealt with are uranium metal, U02, plutonium, Zircalay-2 and other zirconium alloys, stainless steels, nickel-base allays, and some other special cladding materials. The review highlights those achievements which may be considered as pioneer efforts of original contributions to the advancement of the technalagy of nuclear fuel elements.
