Abstract
Although adhesives have been used widely throughout most of recorded history, it is only during the last 25 years that they have become important as a means of metal-to-metal bonding, mainly in aircraft and, more recently, in guided weapon and space applications. An adhesive is a substance capable of holding materials together by surface attachment, 1 and the term ‘structural adhesive’ applies to those formulations that are capable of being used in load-hearing applications; it also implies that such adhesives are capable of with standing,the environment in which they are called upon to perform.
