This article is intended as an introduction to the segmental use of the Universal appliance technique. Recent textbooks (Stoller, 1971; Fastlicht, 1971) and literature reports (Dixon, 1968; Fastlicht, 1973; Gawley and Gawley, 1971; Yudelson, 1967, 1972, 1974) have fully discussed the history, philosophy and Potentials of the Universal appliance, they will not therefore, be discussed in this article.
