The thermodynamics of the Fe–H2O–citric acid system are summarised in the form of potential-pH diagrams calculatedfrom published standard Gibbsfree energies offormation of the various species considered. The influence of citric acid on the behaviour of iron is characterised by a decrease in the stability of Fe(OH)2 Fe(OH)3 and Fe3O4 but the stability region of Fe2O3 is substantially less affected.
