Research on the atmospheric corrosion of metals in the period 1965–1990 is reviewed, with some reference to key papers of slightly earlier date. Particular attention is given to basic research on mechanisms and to the development of semiempirical equations for predicting rates of corrosion from atmospheric data. References are provided to publications that give rates measured at a wide variety of sites.
