Abstract
The findings of some recent research in the field of corrosion inhibitors for engine coolants is summarised. Some new inhibitor formulations are described and attention drawn to the promising results given by a sodium sebacate + benzotriazose mixture. Test procedures have included studies under conditions of high rates of metal-to-coolant heat transfer and the use of high-chloride waters. In addition benzotriazole reduces scale deposition and pH changes, and has a synergistic effect when combined with benzoate in preventing the corrosion of cast iron.
