Abstract
The aim of the present paper is to investigate the effects of aluminium matrix composition and existence of primary cladding over the 2024 aluminium alloy on the cover layer properties during hard anodising. Three types of aluminium with different chemical compositions were selected and anodising process was done. X-ray studies showed that the generated coating crystals are at nanometre scale and this phenomenon was confirmed by TEM. The sample with primary cladding has the best hardness characteristic and wear resistance while because of some defects, 2024 aluminium alloy has the lowest qualities among other samples. Furthermore, from the aspect of energy, the primary clad aluminium was the most economical.
