Novel flow stress model of AA 4343 aluminium alloy under high temperature deformation

Abstract

The flow stress of AA 4343 aluminium alloy under high temperature deformation is modelled by a novel constitutive equation. In order to describe the deformation characterisation, a novel function combining the Voce type hardening model with the linear softening term was proposed to describe the flow stress in a wide range of strain. The effects of strain rate and temperature on the Voce model parameters were analysed empirically, and multiple linear functions were proposed. The effects of strain rate and temperature on the peak flow stress were represented by the Zener–Hollomon parameter, including the Arrhenius term. Experimental stress–strain data from isothermal hot compression tests, in a wide range of temperatures ranging from 300 to 450°C and strain rates ranging from 0·01 to 1 s⁻¹, were employed to find material parameters. The constitutive equations were verified by comparing the experimental and predicted results, and good agreement was achieved.
