Four different lanthanum contents are added to 18-carat white gold alloy. The microstructures of these kinds of as cast 18-carat gold alloys are studied. Experimental results indicate that the addition of rare earth elements can help grain refinement; as the percentage of lanthanum in alloy grows, the alloy becomes obviously refined. The morphology of the as cast structure changed obviously as well. The mechanism is discussed in this paper.
