Abstract
MRI153M is a newly developed magnesium alloy for high pressure die casting applications. This alloy exhibits excellent creep resistance combined with relatively high strength and good corrosion performance. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the solidification characteristics of MRI153M in comparison with conventional alloys, namely AZ91D and AM50A. The purpose was to generate practical data that can be used for part design and for optimising the casting parameters of MRI153M. The required data were obtained using computer simulation and microstructural assessment.
