Abstract
Current practice in electric steelmaking has been to control melting within the furnace on the basis of predefined parameters, modified to a limited extent by online feedback employing process data. This use of what are essentially static meltdown profiles to control a dynamic process limits the operator's ability to respond to variations during individual heats. By allowing dynamic updating of set points in real time to reflect changes in process status, the DanExpert system has the potential to increase EAF productivity, improving operational consistency and lowering transformation costs.
