Abstract
A workshop was held in February 2005 in Mwanza, Tanzania for ultrasound work-related participants from Mali, Kenya, Zanzibar, Zambia and Uganda. The course was funded by the Schistosomiasis Control Initiative, London, in collaboration with the National Institute of Medical Research and the Ministry of Health, Tanzania. The training included theoretical and practical sessions with the aim of teaching the standardized protocols for the grading and staging of the sonopathology of schistosomiasis due to the parasite Schistosoma mansoni (S. mansoni) and Schistosoma haematobium (S. haematobium).1 The grading aids the provision of a quantitative evaluation in research studies.
