Abstract
The effect of nanosized alumina reinforcements on the corrosion behaviour of Mg alloy AZ31B has been studied by polarisation and electrochemical impedance measurements. The corrosion resistance of the composite was superior to that of the monolithic alloy. This has been explained by considering the beneficial effect of alumina reinforcement in reducing the volume fraction of the beta phase in the microstructure.
