Abstract
Copoly(styrene/butadiene/vinyl pyridene) latex based adhesive has been used for bonding wood samples. The effect of prevulcanisation of the latex compounds on the lap shear strength was studied. The variation of ammonium caseinate, cooked starch, carboxy methyl cellulose, and resorcinol formaldehyde resins on joint strength was determined. The resistance of the adhesive joints in cold water, hot water, acids, and alkalis was studied and the storage life of the adhesive latexes was determined. The VP latex based adhesives were found to be superior to natural rubber latex based adhesive and comparable with Fevicol adhesive.
