While the fabrication of finished parts by the powder-metallurgy process has made very rapid progress during the last thirty years or so, the manufacture of semi-finished products, especially strip and sheet, from powders has only recently attracted attention. In regard to the following attempt to summarize the present state of this subject, it must be borne in mind that the processes, which are still in course of development, have been the subject of relatively few publications and that details of some processes already in use, e.g. the manufacture of strip with porous cladding, are being kept secret.
