Abstract
This paper outlines issues that need to be considered when a scheme of landform replication or simulation is prepared and implemented. It refers to a high PSV sandstone quarry in South Wales (Hafod Quarry) where quarry extension workings comprise a hillside excavation. The morphology of the surrounding land, the local geology and the geotechnical setting is briefly outlined and the implications of the long-term restoration objectives on the quarry development and phasing are considered in more detail. Landform replication requires careful attention to the sources and supply of waste materials and to the stability of the replicated slopes.
