Abstract
New facilities were required to overcome the long-standing and acute problem of the storage of the ever-growing collections of the Smithsonian Institution. To solve it, and achieve at the same time the highest possible standards for safe conservation, modern industrial technology, providing 26 000 m3 storage space, has been employed. These systems are briefly described and it is expected that the Museum Support Center will be fully operational in 1983–1984.
