The Fe-12Cr-6Al ferritic stainless steel was prepared from Fe-13Cr scrap by melting in an induction furnace followed by electroslag refining. Hot-workability studies using a hot-torsion technique were conducted on unrefined and electroslag-refined as-cast samples of the steel. Refined ingots were forged at 1270 K, which is the temperature of peak ductility. Hot-torsion tests were also carried out on refined-forged and refined-forged-heat-treated samples. Microstructural examination revealed a reduction in inclusion content of the electroslag-refined material, and grain refinement in the hot-torsion tested samples.
