Implosive welding techniques are used to manufacture reinforced multilayered cylinders out of, initially, flat foil ‘sandwiches’. The reinforcement is provided either by the incorporation (in a weakfoil matrix) of another, but stronger, foil material or, alternatively, of a metal mesh in a different alloy. The quality of the resulting interfacial welds is examined and the overall mechanical properties of the cylindrical composites are assessed.
