Abstract
A brief review is given of the plant andpractices used in the production of aluminium and aluminium alloy sheet and strip. Some recent installations capable of handling coil weights of up to 20 t are noted, and in one mill at speeds up to 2700 m/min. The layout for a plant using a Sendzimir mill as the major reduction unit is included together with notes on the advantages and practical application of the mill and ancillary equipment. The methods of controlling properties by work hardening or thermal treatment are discussed together with the related finishing operations. Mention is made of defects and product inspection, as well as possibilities for future development.
