Abstract
The sizes and weights of starting stocks are related to their primary source and to the plant limitations of the two major hot-rolling mills. Rolling practices for both the hot-rolled finished sheet/plate and the breaking down of hot-rolled process sheet to an intermediate size for subsequent cold-rolled sheet starting stock, are described with regard to: alloy type, heating practices, plant configuration, typical rolling reductions, quality control, and yields. Types of heat treatment, finishing operations, and the future general trends in customer requirements are outlined.
